ECOSOLIDAR’S 40TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AND WORLD CAFÉ

ECOSOLIDAR’S 40TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION AND WORLD CAFÉ

EcoSolidar is celebrating 40 years of solidarity in development cooperation.

Since 1986, EcoSolidar has been committed to working in partnership with local organisations. At the heart of our work are long-term relationships with partners in Asia, Latin America and Africa.

To mark this anniversary, we are delighted to welcome five project partners from Peru, Cambodia, Malawi and India to Switzerland. Their visit is part of a study and networking tour, creating opportunities for personal exchange, shared learning and new perspectives.

At the anniversary celebration, our guests will share insights into their work: from the Pukllasunchis radio project with Indigenous children in Peru, to sustainable agriculture with the Bunong communities by CIFA in Cambodia, permaculture school gardens by ASUD in Malawi, and the empowerment of survivors of gender-based violence through SIEDS in India. You can learn more about our five partners and their projects in our anniversary publication.

During the World Café, you will have the opportunity to meet our partners in person, ask questions and engage in direct conversations. In small rotating groups, there will be plenty of space for exchange and meaningful encounters. Afterwards, we invite you to end the evening together at the dance party.

We warmly invite you to celebrate this special occasion with us and our guests.

To help us avoid ordering too much food, we kindly ask you to register for the apéro by email at info@ecosolidar.ch or by phone at +41 44 272 42 00.

40 years of EcoSolidar – our anniversary year begins!

2026 is a special year for us: EcoSolidar is celebrating 40 years of commitment to education, justice and opportunities.

40 years of EcoSolidar – our anniversary year begins!

2026 is a special year for us: EcoSolidar is celebrating 40 years of commitment to education, justice and opportunities.

To mark this anniversary, we would like to give you insights into our projects and the people behind them with monthly videos throughout the year. The films tell stories of encounters, mutual learning and how sustainable development is achieved locally – on an equal footing and together with our partner organisations.

The first story takes you to Bopha, who, thanks to one of our projects, opened doors, gained new opportunities and was able to change her prospects.

We are collecting all videos and stories on our anniversary page. Join us again this year and experience what has been achieved in 40 years of collaboration.

Engagement in Switzerland

We support organisations and political initiatives in Switzerland if they have a goal or a subject matter that is central to our projects and our work. These are, for example, social and ecological goals or, in general, the fight against socially unjust structures in Switzerland and worldwide. By supporting local social organisations with membership fees we also aim at networking within the region.

Engagement in Switzerland

For EcoSolidar, development cooperation goes beyond supporting projects in the Global South. Many of the causes of poverty, environmental degradation and inequality are rooted in global economic and political structures. This is why we are also active in Switzerland, working alongside organisations committed to food sovereignty, climate justice, corporate responsibility, participation and a strong civil society.

Sustainable agriculture begins with access to diverse seeds, farmers’ knowledge and strong local food systems. EcoSolidar promotes agroecological approaches that protect biodiversity, strengthen the autonomy of smallholder farming families and contribute to long-term food security. We advocate for free access to seeds and oppose the increasing privatisation of genetic resources through patents on seeds and plants. This is why we support organisations in Switzerland that work to preserve seed diversity, defend farmers’ rights and promote sustainable agriculture for the future:

SAG – Swiss Alliance for a GMO-Free Agriculture

Advocates for transparent and responsible regulation of new technologies and for the protection of GMO-free agriculture.

Swiss Coalition for the Right to Seeds

Works to ensure free access to seeds, strengthen farmer-managed seed systems and preserve biodiversity.

Agrecol Germany

Promotes agroecological approaches and the exchange of knowledge among farming communities.

Global economic structures shape the living conditions of people around the world. EcoSolidar advocates for companies to take responsibility for their impact on people and the environment. Together with civil society organisations, we work towards greater transparency, fair framework conditions and an economy that respects human rights and ecological limits:

MultiWatch

Monitors and raises awareness of the impacts of multinational companies on human rights, the environment and local communities.

Coalition for Corporate Responsibility

Advocates for binding rules requiring companies to respect human rights and environmental standards.

The climate crisis disproportionately affects people in the Global South, even though they have often contributed the least to its causes. EcoSolidar links development cooperation with climate justice and supports efforts towards political solutions that take historical responsibility and global inequalities into account. We therefore work alongside networks that bring together climate action and social justice:

Climate Alliance Switzerland

Brings together organisations from the environmental, development, church, trade union and civil society sectors to advocate for a fair and effective climate policy.

A strong civil society is a cornerstone of just and sustainable societies. EcoSolidar supports organisations that enable people to exercise their rights, participate in political processes and develop solutions collectively. In Switzerland, too, we are committed to dialogue, democratic participation and the protection of civic space:

Biorespect

Promotes dialogue on new technologies, environmental issues and the societal impacts of scientific developments.

NetzBon

Promotes sustainable connections between people, organisations and businesses in the Basel region. EcoSolidar supports this approach because social change also grows from practical alternatives in everyday life.

Anlaufstelle Sans-Papiers Basel

Advocates for the rights and dignity of people living in Switzerland without regular residence status. EcoSolidar supports this work because participation and human rights must apply to everyone.

SAG – Swiss Alliance for a GMO-Free Agriculture

Advocates for transparent and responsible regulation of new technologies and for the protection of GMO-free agriculture.
